Sri Lanka Have Not Sportsman Spirit.

On tri-series,third ODI between India and Sri Lanka, the match become scarcely believable when score board simply stats that Virender Sehwag was stranded on 99 and he want one more run to made his century, chasing a moderate target of 171,India rode on Sehwag’s controlled and masterful innings.

However,Sehwag’s fantastic batting display was marred by Sri Lanka’s unsporting tactics in what turned out to be the last over of the match.

With India needing five runs to win and Sehwag one run to shy of his 13th ODI century, the Lankan off spinner Suraj Randiv’s first ball kept low and went between the batsmen and the keeper for four byes runs and score become tied.

Sehwag couldn’t score a single off the next two balls and it was expected that the dashing batsmen would charge down the wicket off the next ball. And this is exactly what he did and hocked Randiv over the long off fence to raise his bat in air.

However the match was over but Sehwag didn’t made his century just because of Randiv. He had bowled a big no-ball.He had deliberately overstepped to deprive Sehwag of a century.

“He should have showed sportsman spirit. If there is a player on 99,it doesn’t mean that you bowl a no-ball,give away four byes. That has no place in good cricket.”Sehwag said after the match.

“Till now in the test matches he hasn’t bowled a no-ball,he hasn’t no-ball in ODI’s.On 99 only why did he bowl a no-ball?And not a small, from one foot ahead. It has happen before with Sachin tendulkar was left on 99 not out in Cuttack one day. They bowled four wides down the leg side.”he said.

“This is not first time Sri Lanka has done this, they may have done it with others teams but with India it is the second time”.Sehwag said.

In replied Lankan captain,Kumar Sangakkara said,”I hope it’s not deliberate. That’s not the way I would like to play cricket,if that was intentional, that has got no place on the field of cricket”.

“So i thought the ICC could have come in and done something about it but it hasn’t eventuated and that is just the way it is.So we just have to get on with it.It was brought in as compulsory i test cricket 12 months ago now,so i thought if it was ever left up in the air someone should have stepped in and made sure it actually happened,” Ponting said.
Indian team also opposed to the video review system for the October test series against Australia.
